Steven Chu @ Stanford

U.S. Secretary of Energy Steven Chu is visiting campus on Monday March 8th, and will be speaking in Memorial Auditorium at noon.  Energy Crossroads will be hosting a follow-up panel and dessert social entitled “Educating the Energy Generation” in Cubberley Auditorium at 5:30 p.m.  Cheesecake from Cheesecake Factory will be provided.  The panel will include:

  • Prof. Lynn Orr, Director of the Precourt Institute for Energy at Stanford.  Dr. Orr has been a member of the Stanford faculty since 1985 and holds the Keleen and Carlton Beal Chair of Petroleum Engineering in the Department of Energy Resources Engineering, and is a Senior Fellow at the Woods Institute for the Environment.  He became the director of the Precourt Institute upon its establishment in 2009, previously serving as director of the Global Climate and Energy Project from 2002 to 2008.
  • Camron Gorguinpour, Executive Director of Scientists and Engineers for America.  Mr. Gorguinpour is a PhD candidate in the UC Berkeley/UC San Francisco Joint Graduate Group in Bioengineering whose area of expertise is human space exploration.  He has has worked on political campaigns at both the state and national levels, most recently as campaign manager for a House of Delegates race in Virginia.
  • Dr. Henry Kelly, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy at the U.S. Department of Energy.  Dr. Kelly previously served as the President of the Federation of American Scientists where he led a team that conducted analysis and advocacy on science, technology and public policy, including global security issues, energy policy, and learning technology.
